The selected articles from the scientific conference on “The Challenges of Liberal Democracy Today”, organised by the Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung Greece and Cyprus and the Center for Liberal Studies in the framework of the “Reshape Europe” campaign, have been published.

Among these articles is Angelos Karayannopoulos’ paper titled “Transformations of Democracy: The establishment of illiberal democracy in Hungary and Poland”, which can be found on page 28.

The paper analyses the phenomenon of illiberal democracy and the ways in which it was institutionally established in Hungary and Poland. It offers a brief background on the institutional transformations that have taken place in these countries the recent years, as well as a tool for identifying similar trends in other EU Member States.
