“The stars may not be fully aligned, the EU needs internal reforms to receive new members, Western Balkan countries need to intensify reforms and some to prove they are committed to EU values and goals, but EU enlargement is nevertheless inevitable. The geopolitical havoc requires it – not only for the benefit of the Western Balkans, Ukraine, Moldova… but also for the benefit of the EU”, Isabelle Ioannides explained at the Stockholm Forum organized by SIPRI, on a panel put together the CMI-Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation.
