Professor Maria Gavouneli, Director General of ELIAMEP, is the new President of the International Law Association. For the first time in the 150 years of the Association, the oldest scientific society of international law, that a woman assumes this office. The Association was founded in 1873 and currently lists 66 national – regional branches. Maria Gavouneli is the president of the Greek branch, which was founded in 1911 and is one of the oldest.
