Ioannis Armakolas spoke to the radio show “Enimerotiki Ekpompi” (SKAI 100.3) with Lena Flitzani and Pinelopi Galiou on the occasion of the results of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in North Macedonia.
He referred to how the victory of the conservative VMRO-DPMNE affects the relations between Greece and North Macedonia, as well as the need to find a channel of communication between the two sides on issues related to the Prespa Agreement, such as the constitutional name of North Macedonia. He also referred to the nationalist rhetoric of the VMRO-DPMNE and the process of adjusting to more moderate positions in relations with Greece, but especially in relations with Bulgaria.
Finally, he explained the reasons for the defeat of the centre-left SDSM, which were largely corruption, problems in relation to the rule of law and the weakening of the economy, and stressed that relations with Bulgaria are a much more sensitive issue than the Prespa Agreement, which has been generally consolidated.
