An article by Ioannis Armakolas was published in VIMA on Sunday on the occasion of the next day of the double elections in North Macedonia and the turning of the page with the return of the conservative VMRO-DPMNE to power after seven years in opposition.

Ioannis Armakolas referred to the reasons that led to the collapse of the SDSM-DUI government, but also to the difficulties that the new government will face, as it will have to manage relations with Bulgaria and Greece, a subject on which it used particularly nationalist rhetoric during the election campaign. At the same time, he stressed that much would depend on how the Bulgarian and Greek sides would react to the new situation in North Macedonia.

He also discussed the wider geopolitical field in relation to North Macedonia, the role of the US, the rivalry between Serbia and Bulgaria, as well as the rivalry between Albania and Kosovo. Finally, reference is made to the fact that Greece did not proceed to deepen relations with North Macedonia even though the former government was very open to this, especially after the Prespa Agreement.
