Speaking with Eleni Karalis on the ERTecho podcast “Eleni in Wonderland”, Elena Lazarou discusses the role and work of the European Parliamentary Research Service, with which she is involved, and notes that we live in an era of major geopolitical changes which has affected both citizens and governments, especially after Russia’s attack on Ukraine. She also draws attention to the ways in which states have weaponized globalization, as well as to population movements and climate change, stressing the need for the international system to respond to the needs these create.
Finally, she notes that, as a system which seeks to achieve peace and international cooperation, the European Union has made contributions in areas including the promotion of green development, trade, and the development and defence sectors. She ends with optimistic messages ahead of the European elections.
