Throughout 2018, research was conducted by the South-East Europe Programme of ELIAMEP on the progress of the implementation of the Confidence Building Measures between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, which were signed in 2015. The focus of the project was on the implementation of the Confidence Building Measures dealing with Justice and Home Affairs. Similarly, the think-tank Analytica, based in Skopje, conducted research covering the same topic from the point of view of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

This specific project was the follow-up to the joint research project titled “Confidence building measures between the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Greece (1): the experience of cooperation in the fields of EU funded cross-border projects and higher education and what does it mean for the future”. This project was conducted in 2017 by the South-East Europe Programme of ELIAMEP and the think-tank Analytica (Skopje, North Macedonia). It resulted in the publication of a report on the issue of cross-border cooperation between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, as well as cooperation between the two countries in the area of higher education.

The project was funded by the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
