The second part of the project “Tackling gender inequalities in research and higher education in Greece (GENDRHED)” incorporated actions that aim to support the implementation of the Gender Equality Plans (GEPs). These included the collection/development of adapted indicators on gender equality in universities and research institutions in Greece. For this purpose, an extensive review of the literature was conducted in order to identify data sources containing indicators on gender equality. From all identified data sources, all relevant indicators were extracted and recorded. Two datasets were created, one containing indicators for universities and the other for research institutions. The indicators in each set are grouped into themes based on the areas of intervention to be addressed in the GEPs, as defined by the EU guidelines. At the same time, a subset of indicators which we believe would be more appropriate to use in the context of universities and research centres in Greece is proposed.

Furthermore, an investigation was carried out into the difficulties faced by universities and research centres in Greece in collecting gender-based data for the calculation of indicators. The results of this exploration emerge through discussions held both with the HIFs of the universities and through the network of gender equality committees of research centres in Greece. At the same time, a series of interviews were conducted with relevant departments of universities and research centres in order to understand the type of data, the way in which and whether gender-disaggregated data are collected. Finally, a number of policy recommendations are proposed at both the institutional and national level that could contribute to improving the data collection process in universities and research centres in Greece.
