One of top foreign policy priorities for US President Barack Obama is to successfully mediate and promote peace talks regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As he explained in his speech at the United Nations on 23 September his goal for next year is to be able to talk for ‘a new member of the UN – an independent, sovereign state of Palestine, living in peace with Israel’.  But is this possible, especially from the moment Israel has decided to end its freeze on West Bank settlement construction?

Attempting to find an answer to this question and within the framework of its Middle Eastern Studies Programme, the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) organised a discussion with the participation of Professor Menachem Klein (Bar-Ilan University of Tel Aviv), Professor Yezid Sayigh (King’s College London) and Dr. Thanos Dokos (Director General, ELIAMEP).  The moderator of the discussion, which took place at the Yannos Kranidiotis Amphitheatre of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was Mr. Nikolas Voulelis (Editor-in-chief of the Athens News Agency and the Macedonian Press Agency).

The discussion took place Monday 27 September at 12.30 p.m., at the Y. Kranidiotis Amphitheatre, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
